Powering Hospitality Sustainably: Stella Group Delivers Bespoke Solar & Battery System for Sandburn Hall

The Stella Group has recently completed a bespoke solar and battery energy system at the prestigious Sandburn Hall Hotel and Country Club in York, delivered in close collaboration with our trusted partner, Zenergy. This landmark project reflects a shared commitment to sustainability and innovation in the hospitality sector, combining high-performance renewable technologies with tailored design and engineering expertise.
The system comprises of:

  • A 580kWp ground-mounted solar array
  • Four additional rooftop solar PV systems
  • A 1.2MWh battery energy storage unit
  • A 250kW power conversion system (PCS) delivering stored energy directly into the site.

Together, these elements form a robust, site-wide energy solution that significantly reduces grid dependency and supports Sandburn Hall’s sustainability objectives. Early performance indicators from April to June 2025 show that the system is on track to meet and potentially exceed our predicted energy savings. In the first three months of operation, the site has required minimal electricity purchases, demonstrating the system’s immediate impact and efficiency.

The Stella Group provided a full turnkey solution, acting as Principal Contractor and delivering:

  • All design and engineering
  • Civils and groundwork
  • Full mechanical and electrical installation
  • Commissioning and monitoring
  • On-site plant and welfare

This project is a testament to the benefits of integrated renewable energy infrastructure in commercial hospitality environments, providing energy security, reducing operational costs, and contributing to net zero targets. We’re proud to support forward-thinking clients like Sandburn Hall as they embrace a cleaner, more sustainable future.
